The Park Interpretive Staff Welcome
Whether your interest is spending a day at the beach, hiking one of the self-guided
trails, participating in one of the many interpretive programs or just taking a walk on the
beach, Island Beach State Park has something for everyone. The
visitor's guide will assist you
in finding new ways to discover Island Beach.
The park is well known for its 10 miles of spectacular white sandy beaches, but it is
much more. Its dunes, thickets, maritime forest and the clean water of Barnegat Bay
provide habitat for an array of wildlife and plants that can be seen from designated trails
throughout the park. The tidal marshes of the Sedge Islands teem with life and contain
New Jersey's largest osprey colony. With excellent access to Barnegat Bay and the
Atlantic Ocean, Island Beach has been a fishing Mecca for more than a century.
Island Beach provides a variety of facilities and programs for the entire family.
Birding, biking, swimming, kayaking, fishing and other water related activities provide a lifetime
of adventures for families. Special programs like the Sedge Island Kayak Tour, Seining
the Bay, or Birding by Kayak provide up-close views of the park's natural resources.
Our facilities are accessible and beach wheelchairs are available free of charge.
The park staff and volunteers invite you to enjoy one of New Jersey's natural treasures.
We are ready to assist you in making your visit a special experience and we hope that
you'll return often. Have a great visit!
